When we are dreaming with others,
it is the beginning of reality.”

In a time of deep humanitarian crisis, over six million Venezuelans have fled their country in desperation. As we hear in the news, many have ended up at the US border. For the majority who remain, the unmet need for primary and secondary health care, for social services, public education, and gainful employment, continues to be enormous.

Reproductive Health for Everyone!

Dr. Del Valle Smith, our longtime OB-GYN, with family planning and reproductive health patients, delivering services that count!
Nurse Lourdes Rodriguez (orange jumpsuit) screening patients at one of our participating clinics.
Dr. Arantxa Bernasconi with young mothers who are learning to space their births.
Dr. Silvia Quijada (seated) processing this gentleman who will be receiving a vasectomy.
These ladies are returning to their rural homes with their attending nurse after receiving our services.
We are grateful that we have been able to respond with our services, as well as provide a lifeline for our administrative staff, rural out-reach promoters, and the doctors, nurses, educators, sociologists, and social workers with whom we work. We help these dedicated professionals to carry on and remain in Venezuela where they are truly needed.
In March 2023, Foundation President Steven Bloomstein was a featured speaker at this Harvard symposium. It was an inspiring event in which we shared our experience and knowledge providing family planning and reproductive health services to low-income communities in northeastern Venezuela where there is enormous unmet need.

DURIAN NATION:

From Seedlings to Productive Forest !!!

Rainy season has begun, its time to plant! We are distributing over 200 rare Durian and other tree crop seedlings to the farmers in the valleys where we work.  The commercially-lucrative Durian, an unusual south Asian fruit, has the potential to lift the economic profile of low-income farmers and foster long-term tree farming in the region.
These farmers are each receiving several durian treelings to plant upriver near their homes. We are offering here an important supplement and alternative to the slash-and-burn landscape that you can see right behind them! In addition to being a nutritious cash crop, durian tree farming can help conserve the local environment.
Stay tuned as Durian Nation takes hold!
