This is Our Time!

Women the world over, from every culture and every background, all know that the long historical reality of oppressive gender hierarchy is slowly breaking up (as northern pond ice does in the spring). Whether we are talking about the female-powered movements in Africa, or the brave women struggling now in places like Afghanistan and the Middle East, the dedicated women driving these transformations know that THIS IS THEIR TIME. The world looks to them to step beyond the old gender barriers, to bring this forward for all of us.

Here in Venezuela, we are a Foundation led by female professionals providing desperately-needed reproductive health education, family planning and primary humanitarian health care for low-income rural and barrio Venezuelan families. We provide these marginalized women and families with the tools and the know-how to exercise control over their own bodies - starting with their fertility - and to know that this is their inalienable human right.

Around the world, women and men across a wide range of cultures, income and education levels, languages, and social and cultural challenges, all increasingly understand that humanity now looks to the empowerment of women and everything that this journey entails.

It is our Foundation's mission, honor and privilege to participate in this greater process, to help enable women (and so many men too) to spread their wings and fly. Some will soar, others may crash, but this is their surging moment in human history.

We deeply appreciate the vision, courage, and creativity of our female (and male) professionals working on the front lines here in Venezuela. Like many others working in areas of great deprivation around the world, it's all about delivering tangible care and related services to those most in need.

This is indeed their time!

The Turimiquire Foundation is an organization staffed and run by Venezuelan women, offering services in reproductive health and education that Venezuelan women (and men) are directly asking for. Our doctors and clinic workers, nurses, educators, sociologists, social workers, and rural promoters, plus our excellent administrative staff based in Cumana, make up a wonderful team dedicated to changing lives every day!
