Our proven methods are reaching more people in more places by popular demand. Everywhere we go there is unmet need.

When we are dreaming with others,
it is the beginning of reality.”

¡¡ Our Necessary Geographic Expansion !!
¡¡ Our methodology works again and again !!
We started in 1996 – 30 years ago – offering our family planning services in one extended river valley to families whose personal circumstances we knew about personally. In no time at all, word of mouth was driving our expansion into neighboring river valleys and into the sprawling urban barrios that ring nearby cities with migrants from these river valleys looking for a better life. Everywhere we turned, there were extensive low-income, under-served populations eager to receive our help in reproductive health, family planning. education, and humanitarian aid.

This process has not stopped to this day. Over the years, we have incrementally extended our outreach into the hinterlands of our eastern state of Sucre, considered to be one of the least developed areas in the whole country. We continue to find large poor families with teenagers giving birth at very young ages, and 35 year old mothers pregnant and already tending to five or more living children. Men and women alike are eager to get off the reproductive treadmill. Most families want two or three children, which are the ongoing averages once our services are solidly in place.

To date, we have reached more then 100,000 families, further expanding our services into the neighboring states of Anzoategui (Barcelona) to the west, Nueva Esparta (the large Caribbean island of Margarita off the coast to the north) and Monagas (Maturin) to the south. All of these states are ostensibly more prosperous than our less developed state of Sucre, but we have discovered the same serious lack of reproductive health services and family planning, and the same unmet need that we have long faced in Sucre.
Typically, the communities that we most want to reach are also the hardest to reach — in remote rural areas, extremely poor, with no transportation and no margins to seek out services on their own. Our goal is for everyone to have access to these services that can transform the trajectory of their lives. So we physically go to them. We have deeply committed teams in place to both travel and to train local promoters onsite to deliver our services. But all this requires more resources.
We coordinate with public health facilities on the Island of Margarita to offer our family planning services where there is so much local unmet need.

And even when services are not immediately available, the pervasiveness of the Internet allows isolated populations to understand that they can decide about their reproductive health, that modern medicine gives them real choices. We partner with Vitala Global to offer their family planning app Aya Contigo to everyone who has access to a cellphone and seeks assistance with their reproductive health.
There has been enormous growth in reproductive health awareness from when we started this work decades ago. Families increasingly understand the basic right they have to determine the size of their families! And one notably encouraging trend that we are seeing is more participation by men in planning their families -- leading in part to mature families practicing vasectomies, previously very unusual in our region.
