2021 has been a year of growth, regardless of the pandemic!
We are going forward on all of our fronts!

Agriculture
With the beginning of the rainy season in Venezuela,
it's time to plant more of our unusual fruit trees!

|
These are second-generation Durian treelings, the unique Asian fruit that we have successfully introduced into our rural valley. The first generation is already generating significant income for our campesino farmers. We are also producing and disseminating mangosteen, jackfruit, and a number of other wonderful and unusual tropical fruits. Check out this earlier newsletter.

How hard do our scholarship students work to overcome obstacles and acquire a university education? These two, who live far from the road, have climbed high into the hills where they can find Internet service via cellphone. They set up their study area on the hillside and do their university assignments on their cellphones. They come into town when Venezuela's strict COVID-19 quarantine rules allow, and when transportation permits (gasoline scarcity), to attend class in open areas. The Foundation supports these dedicated students with the tools and resources they need. They are the source of so much pride for their campesino parents!

On another front, these women are onboard their county-supplied bus to return to their remote rural village after receiving our family planning services! Their two rural nurses, standing in the center, are the true heroes of family planning work. These and other nurses, poor and often semi-literate themselves, reach out and organize women in their communities to receive our services, all the while overcoming unimaginable logistical challenges.
Gracias nurses
